TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR NONPROFIT WEBPAGE
by Ronald J. Meshanko, President, ERC
Many nonprofits are taking advantage of the internet for marketing their programs and services, providing educational information, recruiting volunteers, and even soliciting donations. Some recent government RFP's have even included internet access as a requirement for submitting a proposal.
The following tips will help you write your webpage. If you are not a computer wizard, you might want to get HTML for Dummies by Ed Tittel and Steve James (IDG Books Worldwide).
- Each page should be the size of one full screen only; break it into sections that are linked.
- Make each page pleasing to the eye by using lots of white space and low-byte graphics.
- The first page should contain the agency mission statement, contact information (address, email address, telephone, etc.) and agency logo. Keep it simple.
- The second page should contain the menu with links to each page in the menu.
- Each page should be linked to the next page in the ordered sequence, have a link back to the menu, and have an email link.
- Before you start developing the webpage, surf the internet and look at other creative webpages.
- If your webpage serves as an information or link gateway to other webpages, you'll have higher visibility on the internet. Have your webpage enlisted with the internet search engines. Use the proper keywords and classification codes so people will be led to your site.
