MARCH 2000

Fran Buckley, Superintendent of Documents, and Grace York, Coordinator, Documents Center, at the University of Michigan Library, have been invited to speak at a conference entitled "Government Information and Democracy" in St. Petersburg, May 15-16. The Russian Federation is in the process of establishing its own depository system so I'm supposed to represent U.S. depository libraries. My presentation covers the challenges depository libraries face in terms of collection development, preservation, access, reference, and publicity, then how the Internet has effected this. I'm reaching into GODORT-M conversations to pull out the different types of libraries we represent. The U.S. Consulate is planning tours of academic libraries in St. Petersburg and national libraries in Moscow.

Baby Sanders is here!
Margaret Claire Sanders arrived at 5:15am on February 15, 2000. She weighs 7.4 and is 20 inches long. Ann, Mike, and Margaret are all doing very well. But needless to say, the Regional Depository Coordinator at the Library of Michigan may be out of the office for a while.

Grace York, Coordinator, Documents Center, at the University of Michigan Library, is the 2000 Marta Lange/CQ Award winner. "Grace exemplifies the qualities we seek in awarding the Marta Lange/CQ Award. Her numerous contributions to the profession, in the form of articles, web sites, committee work, and speaking engagements have shown her to be a vital source in furthering the cause of government documents, both domestically and worldwide. Grace will be honored at a luncheons ponsored by CQ to be held during the ALA Annual Meeting in Chicago. I know that all of Grace's colleagues, the Marta Lange/CQ Award Commmittee, and the many people she has helped with her work over the years join me in extending a hearty congratulations!" Merle J. Slyhoff, Document Delivery and Auxiliary Services Librarian, University of Pennsylvania, Chair, Marta Lange/CQ Award Committee.
