RECENT DOCTORAL DISSERTATIONS
ABOUT AFRICA
The documents below are part of a project begun in 1980. The basic reports list new American and Canadian theses that were abstracted in ProQuest dissertations & theses (formerly, Dissertation Abstracts International (DAI)), which should be consulted for further details. They supplement American and Canadian Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses on Africa, 1974-1987 (1989).
Many recent theses are available in open access or via institutional subscriptions. See http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/ for the Proquest database or http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/thesescanada/index-e.html for a Canadian database. A small number of theses are not immediately available for purchase.
Numbers for theses by university (in North America) are drawn from database used to compile the quarterly lists. The second Excel file shows distribution by broad subject discipline.
The annual lists of British theses come from Index to Theses, with Abstracts, Accepted for Higher Degrees by the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland (Aslib).
The annual lists of North American and British theses combine titles from the DAI and Aslib.
