Collections Division

Annual Report July 2005-June 2006

Introduction

The mission of the Collections Division of the MSU Libraries is to provide a collection of information resources that will support the identifiable research needs of the university community as well as those of scholars worldwide. Library staff in the division pursue this goal through collection development, liaison with faculty, interaction with library users, and a variety of tasks in support of this work.

For detailed Goals & Objectives see http://staff.lib.msu.edu/sowards/colldev/Gs&Os/Gs&Os06.html.

This is a summary. More detailed records often are available elsewhere, in fund accounting reports, the record of TLE purchases, coordinator meeting minutes, online ARL statistics, etc.

Staff

Many (but not all) library staff with a role in Collections had primary assignments and supervision within the Division. During all or part of 2005-06, that group included Marilia Antunez, Jane Arnold, Diane Baclawski, Mary Black Junttonen, Jaime Blanck, Sheila Bryant, John Coffey, Jon Harrison, Talbott Huey, Susan Kendall, Sharon Ladenson, Joe Lauer, Laura Leavitt, Peter Limb, Terri Miller, Diana Rivera, Michael Rodriguez, Yolanda Rosales, Steven Sowards, Anne Swan, Mary Ann Tyrrell, Mike Unsworth, Diane Warner, Kathleen Weessies, Agnes Widder, Terrie Wilson, Nancy Barkey Young, and Mary Jo Zeter.

For a list of all fund assignments, including librarians from other Divisions assigned to selection duties, see the following section.

Several staff involved in Collections changed portions of their assignment during the year. Hui Hua Chua assumed responsibility for the JRN fund. Marilia Antunez joined the MSU Libraries in August 2005. Jaime Blanck joined the libraries in September 2005. Sue Shultz (Business) resigned in Fall '05 to take a job at DePaul (with Sara Miller and then Kara Gust stepping in). Jane Arnold retired in January 2006, and was replaced as Humanities Coordinator by Michael Rodriguez. Mary Ann Tyrrell stepped down as Science Coordinator in April 2006 and was replaced by Anita Ezzo, but remained active as a bibliographer. Laura Leavitt joined the libraries in June 2006. Lisa Robinson (Lyman Briggs College liaison) assumed responsibility for the general SCI fund.
